Sound familiar?

Four reasons people book their first class with us.

Stiff from sitting all day

Desk jobs switch off the deep muscles that hold you upright. Reformer Pilates switches them back on: posture, core, and mobility in one session.

Want to get strong, hate big gyms

No crowded weights floor, no guesswork. Our strength and boxing classes are small coached groups, with someone watching your form the whole time.

Building strength for the years ahead

Strength matters more as we get older, for bones, muscle, and staying capable. Reformer or fitness, this is the most supported way to start.

Getting back to exercise

Post-baby, post-injury, or post-long-break. Low impact on the reformer, or as much sweat as you fancy in a fitness class. Both are completely beginner-welcoming.

Pick your £10 first class

Two tasters. Both £10. Pick one. Both the reformer pilates and the fitness classes (strength training or boxing) are built to meet you where you’re at, whether you’re a beginner or experienced.

Reformer Pilates

Reformer Pilates Taster, £10

Core strength, posture, and control on the reformer machine. The one everyone’s talking about, and the gentlest place to start.

Strength & Boxing

Fitness Class Taster, £10

Strength training or boxing in small coached groups. Pick this if you want to build strength or get moving and learn a new skill.

Can’t decide? Pick whichever sounds more like you and you can always book the other one at a later date (but not at the same price as the taster)

Your first class, step by step

Same three steps, whichever class you pick.

1 Book a time that suits you

Pick any Reformer or fitness class on the timetable. Booking takes 30 seconds and costs £10.

2 Arrive 10 minutes early

We’ll meet you, show you around, and get you set up: reformer springs and straps, gloves and pads for boxing or weights for strength training. You don’t need to know a thing.

3 Follow your instructor

Classes stay small, seven on the reformer, so your coach watches your form the whole way through. Expect to wobble a little and leave feeling muscles you forgot you had.

Wear comfy leggings or shorts and a top you can move in. Grippy socks for Reformer, trainers for fitness. We sell the socks at the studio if you need a pair. That’s the entire preparation list.

Not just another studio in Reading

Here since 2017, and still small on purpose.

Members and instructors of Refresh Health Club together in Reading

Fully qualified instructors, no exceptions

Every Reformer teacher here is fully qualified, and we run our own teacher training programme. Our strength and boxing coaches are qualified too. On a moving carriage or on the pads, proper coaching isn’t a luxury.

Genuinely small classes

Reformer is capped at 7 and fitness classes stay small, so your instructor knows your name, your goals, and what your body needs. Closer to personal training than a big group class.

Reformer and fitness under one roof

Reformer is where a lot of people start. Strength training and boxing are why they stay. Both live in the same studio in central Reading, on the same membership.

A community, not a gym

We’ve been part of Reading since 2017. People who join tend to stick around, and someone will genuinely notice if you miss a week.

What members say: 4.9★ from 63 Google reviews

“I’d wanted to try reformer for a while but was a bit nervous as I’d never done it before… I was immediately hooked. Now I go once or twice a week and I really feel like I’m getting stronger. In a recent half marathon, I finished feeling the strongest I’ve ever done.”

Elizabeth J, Google review

“Every session leaves me feeling stronger, more positive, and just so refreshed. I recently started boxing classes as well. The energy is fantastic, and I feel so empowered after each class.”

Rekina S

“The sessions are well-structured, supportive, and genuinely effective. I’ve noticed a real improvement in my strength and posture. The instructors make everyone feel comfortable, no matter your level.”

Alice P

“This friendly studio introduced me to reformer Pilates and has helped me overcome a chronic injury. Babs and the team of instructors offer brilliant expertise.”

Questions, answered

I’ve never done Reformer or a fitness class. Will I keep up?

Yes. Most people booking a taster have never touched a reformer or a set of pads. Your instructor sets everything up with you and coaches you through every exercise. Wobbling is part of it.

I’m not flexible / not fit enough.

That’s what the class is for, not a requirement to join it. Every exercise scales to your level, whether that’s the springs on the machine or the weight you pick up.

What do I wear or bring?

Comfortable leggings or shorts and a top you can move in. Grippy socks are ideal for Reformer and we sell them at the studio. Trainers for fitness classes. Bring water. That’s it.

Reformer or fitness taster: which should I pick?

If you’re brand new to exercise or want posture, core, and low-impact strength: Reformer. If you want to move more, sweat, and try boxing and if you want to build strength, try the strength training: the fitness taster. Both are £10 and both are beginner-friendly.

Where are you?

87-89 Caversham Road, Reading RG1 8AN, in central Reading.

How many people are in a class?

Reformer classes are capped at seven people. Fitness classes stay small too, so your instructor can coach everyone individually, every session.

Why only £10?

Because we’re confident in what happens after your first class. It’s a proper class, not a sales pitch.

What happens after my taster?

Whatever you like. Most people move onto a class pack or membership (memberships start at £109/month) and that covers Reformer and fitness classes. There’s no pressure and no contract ambush, and your instructor can talk you through the options if you ask.

I work for the NHS / I’m a student. Is there a discount?

Yes. 10% off any full price packs and memberships with valid ID. Ask at the studio after your taster.

Ready when you are

One class. Ten pounds. A small room, everything set up for you, and a coach who’ll know your name by the end of it. If it’s not for you, you’ve spent £10 on an hour of proper coaching, and that’s the whole downside. The hardest part is walking in the first time, so let’s get that bit done.
